Little About SJ

Hi there, I’m Sj

I'm happy that you're here and very excited to share my love and knowledge of Pilates with you.

I came to my first Pilates class as a bit of a skeptic. I had my perceptions of what I believed  Pilates was, and chalked it up as a yoga pants and lattes kinda scene.

My first class, I was humbled.I quickly discovered that it was not at all what I had thought, and I wanted more.  A few months in and I knew that I needed to learn all I could about the classical Pilates method and began to explore training with, The Pilates Center, in Boulder Colorado.

This all happened at a very pivotal time for me. My work experience had been in social advocacy and supporting survivors of trauma. I was arriving at a place where my capacity to do that was truly, completely exhausted. I didn't know it at the time, but Pilates was going to be the net that supported me as I swayed through some major life changes. I was and am so grateful  for this, and was fully aware that it was a privilege that I had the time and resources to process this transition.

What the heck does this have to do with Pilates really??? I wasn't sure at first either. I didn't know that I would end up here. A Pilates teacher...? Really?  I don't have to highlight the clique I was dangerously edging towards. At the same time, I couldn't deny that this work felt fulfilling, and it felt like something worth sharing... and that felt good.

Once I started practicing teaching, I realized how much my work in social advocacy and trauma, informed my work as an instructor. I'm not sure how to explain this except to say, I've learned this really cool thing that I think makes people feel better, stronger, supported... and I want to share it.

If this sounds weird and not what you thought about Pilates…I get it. It is weird. Pilates is weird…and amazing…and healing…and a little hardcore ;)
